External Storage options for iPad Pro 2017 (iOS 11)
I’m about to come back into the Apple world after years of being away, thanks to a purchase of a 12.9″ iPad Pro 2nd gen. All I could afford was the 64GB version and I will be drawing on it every day so I’m bound to fill that storage up.
I’ve been looking, and need suggestions for external storage options. There’s iCloud (I’d prefer not being dependent on an internet connection), USB drives with lightning connectors or with built in wifi, memory card readers with lightning connectors, and NAS is an option (but not necessarily portable), and probably others I haven’t found yet.
During my search, often times people are discussing the ability to play music or movies from the external drive, but I’m looking more for file storage (Procreate files and other image files to work on, not just view). It seems like most of the time these external storage options require an app to be able to access them, some being better or having more features than others.
Is this still the case (the apps) with iOS 11 and its file management system, or is there possibility for more of a direct access to external storage now?
Which option is the fastest? I think the 12.9 iPad Pro 2017 has usb 3.0 speeds. How would a lightning USB drive compare to a lightning SD card reader with a fast card compare to a wifi USB drive?
Which option(s) would allow me to work on the file externally, if any, vs. copying the files back and forth to work on them?
Cost is definitely a factor right now, so I’m kind of looking for the cheapest option that will work acceptably well, rather than an absolute top of the line option.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
