I have a Macbook, an iPhone, and Apple Watch – I feel like none of them are that great, but at the same time I also never had a good crash course to understand how they all sync/work with each other. I work a busy job with a demanding lifestyle, what are the possibilities?
As the title says, I own a Macbook, an iPhone, and an Apple Watch. They’re also neat pieces of hardware, but overall I’m unimpressed with them. I feel like there is a lot of knowledge I lack on the Mac sync/integration features so I decided to come to this community to see if anyone can help me better understand how I could leverage these products to improve my quality of life, work-performance, and cool fun things I could do.
Historically, I’ve been a Windows guy and never bought Apple stuff until I recently have been given them… My fiance bought my the Apple Watch for Christmas, the Macbook was a friend who upgraded and gave me their late-2015 model, and the iPhone was given to me by work (it’s a 7+). I’ve been using them, but I feel like I’m missing something and have no clue to use them properly. I also don’t know how everyone seems to learn how to use these products since the learning resources seem absent.
For example, my finance (who is not tech-savy) at all is using all these touchpad gestures and seemingly using the Macbook much better, while I’m sitting next to her having trouble highlight and copying words without the dictionary look up coming up. I have no clue where/how she learned. I asked her and she couldn’t tell me me either lol.
Where do I learn all those cool tricks she seemed to learn naturally?
On my iPhone, I have some cool apps, but I currently use zero of the native built in ones that sync with my Macbook… not because I can’t learn them, but because I don’t know where to read and review their functionalities/use cases and where to start with.
My Apple Watch is a glorified digital display currently. It shows me me heartrate, the time, and when an incoming call or text is coming in… but other than that it kinda seems useless? I have my phone near me at all times and I end up picking up my phone since it’s interface is easier to use.
I’ve heard Apple products are great and have awesome workflows/cross-device features are supposed to be very capable, but I feel like I joined the party late and everyone already gets it whereas I have a bunch of things I can do, but zero guidance which is leading my to under-utilize.
I work in marketing and have a very busy schedule with tons of emails, creative work, and documents sharing so I feel like I probably have a lot of functionality that would be helpful I’m missing out.
Can anyone provide some advice/tips to help me take advantage of this hardware I have? Or is there any good resources or guides on how to optimize Apple tech workflows/syncs?
I also have a background in programming and want to dabble in web/app development… any suggestions on IDEs and workflows for approaching this? I have xcode installed and found some tutorials I plan to dive into this weekend (had to take many programming courses in undergrad and understand the fundamentals and had to make some complex projects, but haven’t touched code in over 10 years)
