Bad Experience with Apple Watch S2 Service
So I bought an Apple Watch S2 Aluminum almost 17 months ago. A week ago, the digital crown stopped responding to being pushed in. I wasn’t doing anything active or diving through the mud or anything like that, the crown just randomly stopped working while I was sitting at my desk.
I look up an article on Apple’s website that says to wash out with warm water, but this doesn’t fix the issue. So I make an appointment to go to the Apple Store and get the technician’s opinion.
He observes that, indeed, the digital crown does not work when pressed in. He tells me (correctly) that my watch is out of warranty. He remarks that the watch looks practically brand new, with no scratches or signs of wear. And he says that any service will cost $229.
At this point, I’m pretty frustrated. I’ve taken great care of the watch and it is unacceptable for a $399 product to stop having full functionality after less than a few years.
I tell the technician that I don’t want any service on the watch if it will cost money. I tell him, “I think the best solution for me is to never buy and Apple Watch again. I can’t spend that much on something that doesn’t last.” And you know what he says?! He says, “Yeah, I get you there. You should have gone with a mechanical watch” and he shows me a shiny non-apple watch on his wrist.
I get not servicing a product out of warranty that, arguably, broke on its own. Whatever, that’s just a lesson learned to not buy the product again. But to have the store that sold it to me say that I should have never bought it? That’s a step too far and really left a bad taste in my mouth. Just wanted to share my experience, thanks for reading. Does anyone else have an experience like this?
