I made a huge mistake upgrading to the iPhone X
I’ve been using iPhones since the 4. My whole family uses iPhones. 6 days ago I upgraded my 7+ to the X. Let me preface all this by saying that I loved my 7+. I took it under water and took videos and photos all the time. Other than the occasional condensation on the lens that would go away, I never had an issue with it. I had my brand new X in my pocket last night at the beach. I got hit with a small wave and my pocket got wet. When I got back to the car, the phone wouldn’t turn on. It wouldn’t charge or hard reset.
So I took it to the Sprint store this morning. I mean, I just bought the phone. And being water resistant is an advertised feature. I mean if you go to the Apple website, three pictures down is an iPhone X splashing around like a toddler at a pool party. The Sprint rep takes it to the back and they come out and tell me that the phone has water damage and there is nothing they can do for my 6 day old “water resistant” phone other than charge me the $275 deductible for the Sprint insurance or I can drive an additional 50 miles (on top of the 45 miles I already drove) to the nearest Apple story and give them $100 for the Apple Care.
I’m at a total loss here. I’m so frustrated and upset about the situation. I don’t know how you can advertise a feature and then refuse to cover that feature under your warranty. How is that even legal? It’s basically saying “it’s water resistant up to 3 feet but just don’t get it wet.” Now I’m going to have to drop another $100 plus gas and time to get a phone that works. Additionally, I’m never ever going to feel comfortable getting my phone wet. That was the one thing I loved about my 7+. I never had a worry about it getting wet. It was such a relief from the old days. But this wonderful experience, I’m back to the stone age.
