How do I remove iMessages from my iCloud? It’s preventing me from backing up my phone anymore.
I wanted to test out the iMessage backup feature for a little bit and eventually it used up my 5GB of space. So I figured I’d turn it off. It shows that I have a lot of free space on my iCloud since turning that off but backups still fail because it claims I have no space. I suspect that for some reason my iCloud is still holding the messages in it and just isn’t showing it. I’m not sure how to fix this. It never presented me with a way to redownload all my messages back to my device to store them locally again.
The reason I think it’s storing my messages elsewhere is from this vague info in the Apple FAQ article regarding this feature: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208532
“If you turn off Messages in iCloud on an iPhone or iPad, your message history will be included in a separate iCloud backup.” How do I access this “separate backup” and get rid of it.
