Apple’s Build Quality is Incredible
I’m moving and in the process of packing up boxes, I found some CDs with pictures from around the early 2000’s. Or course since it’s 2018, none of the tech gadgets that I have at home have a CD drive. I was resolved to wait until I went to my parents’ house, since they have an older computer, until I stumbled upon my old MacBook.
I got it in 2008, as a high school graduation present, and used it until 2015 when I retired it for a 2015 MacBook Pro. That 2008 MacBook has a CD drive so I thought I’d give it a shot and see if I could boot it up. Surprisingly, it booted up and ran pretty quickly for a 10-year old MacBook running OSX Lion. I was able to use it to get my pictures over from the CDs to a USB drive.
When I think about it, it’s pretty incredible that I was able to boot a 10 year old computer, one that hadn’t been turned on for over three years, and that it would work as if no time had passed. This MacBook had been with me though college, multiple moves and multiple trips so it has taken plenty of abuse. All this speaks volumes about Apple’s build quality. I can’t imagine doing something like this with a Windows computer. The build quality and reliability are why I’ll continue using MacBooks for the foreseeable future…or until I need a new one, but has Apple discontinued them because “what’s a computer?”
