Stolen iPhone – I think there’s hope of recovery
Okay so I’m from South Africa, I need some help with recovering my Iphone. I think there’s still hope.
My iPhone 7 Plus was stolen from my back pack at a festival on the 10th of August. I had find my iPhone activated and I have a password on the phone.
I obviously tried to locate my phone through the find my iPhone app but the thief had turned my phone off. So I put it in lost mode and put in my brothers contact number Incase something came up.
I then went to my network carrier and blocked my SIM card and replaced it with a new one, but didn’t blacklist the phone yet (also Incase something came up)
Yesterday my brother gets an sms saying that my lost/stolen phone has been located (I also got an email from apple saying the same thing with an address) I logged into the find iPhone and sure enough I had a location (40 mins from where I live), but it was an old location from earlier that day, and it was in the middle of Johannesburg cbd with buildings and flats all over the place, so the chances of me actually getting there in time and trying to find it were basically zero. Now I thought that was it for my phone, they wiped my phone or flashed it or something and it’s gone forever.
But my brother messages me today saying someone contacted him on whatsapp about my phone, then shortly after that he starts getting texts from “apple” trying to get him to login to my iCloud to find my phone. (I’ll link screenshots at the end). I decided to message the guy myself on whatsapp, he read the message but no reply. Shortly after that I also started getting texts from ‘apple’ to login to my iCloud, I then got a random phone call from somewhere in Algeria…
I’m fairly confident that I can still get my phone back, and that the thieves are desperately trying different phishing techniques to get me to login to my iCloud. Anyone know what else i could do to try and find my phone? [screenshots](https://imgur.com/gallery/fQvVdnT)
