iPad Air 2 false charging and stuck in reboot loop
I have an iPad Air 2 which I got in February 2017. Yesterday after charging my iPad for several hours I saw that it was stuck on 9% battery. It showed that it was plugged in and charging, but the percentage never actually changed. I tried a bunch of different cords, different outlets and hard reset a bunch of times. I even erased the iPad and restored from an older iCloud backup.
After a while it got stuck in a reboot loop. It comes on for a couple minutes then restarts itself. It has been doing this non-stop. I took it to Best Buy (where I bought it) and another Apple authorized retailer, and they both said it was likely a motherboard issue and I needed a full unit replacement. It costs $300 to replace it through Best Buy, so obviously I’d just recycle it at Apple and buy the new 9.7-inch iPad for $329.
Basically I just want to know if anyone else had this issue, and if you had any luck resolving it. I did a lot of googling and it seems like a very common issue. My boyfriend said it also happened to his iPhone a while ago and he got it replaced because he has Apple Care (I don’t — but I’ll definitely get it if I get the new iPad!). None of the solutions online helped me, and obviously the store techs couldn’t help either. Wondering how obscure this issue is and if anybody knows why it happened.
Also, to clarify, I did not drop it or spill water on it or anything of that nature. It just randomly started happening. Sad 🙁
