iPhone website data – is it normal to have data from sites I haven’t ever visited??
Hi there. I recently had a security concern on my iPhone 8 – I posted about it recently, but in short I was browsing the internet when I was redirected to a site called something like sarah.runtnc which upon further research appeared to be a malware/browser hijacking type virus. The webpage tried to open my music app – very strange. I declined. My phone also asked me to enter the password for my email address which was also strange. I did not enter it. I was pretty freaked out but received reassurance on here that after wiping website data etc I should be fine. I also scheduled a call with Apple and they told me all I needed to do was clear website data as a precaution but they reassured me that Apple runs a pretty tight ship and any infection was highly unlikely.
Flash forward a few weeks, and I just checked my website data – there were so many random sites I have never visited! Some sites are legitimate websites (that I have never visited though!) and some were random “cloudfront.net” sites and a whole lot of other random sites that dont even sound real eg “adobetm.com” “go-mpulse.net” “scoreandresearch.com” “chartbeat.com” . Is this normal??? I have tested it on my mother in laws iPhone and she seems to get a lot of random web data too for similar sounding sites. Although mine gets a lot more. Should I be concerned? I’ve transferred all my images to my computer and I’ve had a guts full of all these security concerns keeping me up at night, I keep having dreams I’m being hacked, it’s making me so paranoid, so I think the best thing to do is just wipe my phone completely and start fresh with a new apple ID. Thoughts?
