Locked out after update – Disappointed in Apple for this one..
Picked up my new Xs this past friday. Got all my data transferred and apps setup. All went well. Still getting the feel of the new phone (upgrade from a 7.) Decided to go for a hike and try out the new camera and features the next day.
On the way up into the mountains, my phone decided to run an iOS update (even though automatic updates were turned off, i checked after the fact.) After the update completed, the phone needed to reactivate with my carrier I guess. I was up in the mountains and had no cell service. Ok. So it gave me the option to connect to wifi. Obviously useless from where I was at. Last option: Connect your phone to iTunes to activate. Nope, i didnt bring my home computer with me…
No other options available. Lock screen only unlocked to the activation screen. Home screen not available. Miles from cell service, in the woods looking forward to a nice walk with some photo trials, and im completely locked out of my phone.
Later on I got back down to the main highway and just like that, the phone connected, activated, and let me unlock to the home screen.
Apple, is this by design? If you cant find an internet connection, the user is disallowed the use of their phone after an update? Very disappointed Apple….
Is this a new thing with their OS?
This is what I got when I tried to unlock my phone. Until I was in service range again, there was nothing I could do.
