What do Apple do with trade-in units ?
I tried to trade a 9.7” pro iPad in against a new 11” today. I was expecting about £180 based on the online estimate and I thought they tore these down and recycled them.
In store, the sales guy pointed out a small scuff on one corner. No idea how that happened since it’s lived its entire life in a case but fair enough. Based on that, they wouldn’t take it.
I took it down to Game and they gave me £138 cash after I pointed out the scuff. It took it down a grade but they were still happy with it. I could have got more in store credit but I’m always worried about their next bankruptcy.
So I’m confused. A place that buys stuff to on-sell was happy to take it, but a place I thought took stuff to break for parts wouldn’t.
Any idea what Apple do with these that makes cosmetic damage a no-go ?
