PSA: Learn to back up your iPhone. Find a way. Figure it out. Make sure your personal info is safe!
I’m a mod over at /r/iphonehelp and most people coming to the sub for help have issues that threaten the total loss of their personal data, photos/videos, notes, and whatnot. A device can be replaced, but your personal info cannot…*unless you have a backup.*
1. Use iCloud backup. You’ll need to purchase the monthly upgraded cloud space, though. It’s not expensive (starting at $1/month for 50gb), but those with a 128gb – 512gb device could get significantly more costly.
2. Use iTunes. It’s free! It’s definitely not intuitive for beginner users, and can be intimidating. But it’s a great tool for backing up devices either plugged in or via wifi (enable this in iTunes settings). I encourage users to learn to use iTunes.
3. Use 3rd party software for backing up your iPhone. There are many online options, but not all are compatible with Mac and/or Windows.
My personal recommendations? I use iTunes on a Mac and manually backup every week. Each month I go to the source folder for iPhone backups and copy the entire backup folder for my device and paste/save it to a flash SD card. I use Google Photos separately to backup and sync my pics on “high” quality, which is free and unlimited. I do not use iCloud for Photo syncing at all.
Please back your information up. It will save you heartache down the road.
