I feel like Apple could potentially save thousands of lives by putting a “bug” in watchOS 5.1.3
What if Apple purposefully does “an oopsie” so to speak, and builds in a way to activate ECG in watches outside of the US into watchOS 5.1.3? They could build in some sort of complicated way of activating the feature no matter where you are located. People are going to find this out and Apple could just claim it was an error on their part. And when the relevant authorities complain about this, they would just immediately issue an updating and fixing the “bug”. However by that time a lot of people are going to be able to temporarily use the ECG in watchOS 5.1.3 and can check their heart for afib at least once, no matter where they are.
Of course I don’t know what the legal consequences of such an “oopsie” would be, but I feel like it wouldn’t be as bad if they claim it was a genuine error on their part. I’m no lawyer of course.
