Apple Customer Service Success (iPhone replacement)
Was in the hot tub yesterday and showed someone something on my phone (XS Max). It got a little damp, but I put it down next to the hot tub and didn’t think about it again.
When I picked it up it was unresponsive. Dried it off, tried to charge it, nothing. Luckily I roll with a iPhone SE (I was traveling at the time) just for this situation. I swapped out SIM cards and worried about my photos.
Went into the Apple Store today, got in and waited about ten minutes. Tech did some diagnostics on it and told me the logic board had failed. Swapped it out for another unit right there. Thanks to iCloud backup (which I used to hate, but have since changed my mind) I haven’t lost much. The weekend trip’s pictures were toast, but everything from when I left my house Friday and before was all saved in the cloud and fine.
One thing I’m bummed about, is that I had about 8 months of warranty left on the original phone and now I only have 3 months. That alone is making reconsider apple care for the next phone I get.
Overall, pretty happy with the outcome. I think, maybe in hindsight, If I’m going to be out doing stuff for a few days I might start using photo stream but I’m not sure.
