Apple’s mobile device lineup would be so much better with 6 products: a mini, regular, and large iPhone and iPads all with the design of the current iPad Pro.
To me this is just common sense and would make their lineup so much easier to navigate and pick the device that makes the most sense for you. It’s absurd to limit people who want a smaller screen to obsolete technology, and force people who want the latest technology to make compromises on things like size and price. I remember that Jobs’ goal was always to keep the product lineup as simplified as possible. I am convinced that only sticking with a lineup of 3 iPhones and 3 iPads would lead to greater customer satisfaction but also boost Apple’s profits. The current iPad Pro has, IMO, the best design of any device Apple’s ever made and finally captures the “magic” of Apple’s best products. I really don’t see why they can’t just roll that design out to each device with the following size and price points:
– iPhone Mini 5-inch: $700
– iPhone 5.8-inch: $900
– iPhone Max 6.5-inch: $1100
– iPad Mini 8.5-inch: $500
– iPad 11-inch: $700
– iPad Pro 13-inch: $900
Most people will go for the middle options, which costs more than the XR and iPad, leading to higher margins for Apple, and customers get more bang for their buck. All iPhones should have FaceID, OLED, etc. and all iPads should all have FaceID, USB-C, Smart Connector, bezel-free design, 120hz screen, etc.
This was prompted by the dumb rumor that Apple is going to throw out some half-assed iPad Mini with 2 year old tech. Can you imagine how many Minis they’d sell with the current iPad Pro design?
Now don’t even get me started on that MacBook lineup….
