Can we talk about how terrible it is to get to the home screen during a call on new iPhones?
Honestly have no idea how this has been in iOS for as long as it has, but it’s really annoyed me since day one and it’s only getting worse for me as time goes on.
Not sure how many of you have experience with this but getting to the home screen while while in a call (and specifically when your phone is locked) is legitimately terrible. There are multiple reasons for this.
1. The end call button is DIRECTLY IN THE PATH OF THE SWIPE UP. Now obviously it’s relatively easy to avoid hitting it, but why is it directly in the path? This is needlessly anxiety provoking during an important call and I’ve accidentally hung up on multiple occasions since switching to an X.
2. After the first swipe up it does this awkward FaceID scan where unlocks and then dumps you back into the phone screen, where you need to use another swipe to get to the home screen. It doesn’t feel cohesive and doesn’t communicate what it’s doing well enough. Also makes you swipe towards the hang up button multiple times. The whole thing is just clunky, even on an XS.
The entire process feels very clunky and non-intuitive and clashes with the general polish of the rest of iOS. I think the swipe mechanics are solid and I haven’t missed the home button at all, but this process really needs to be changed to be more fluid as it stands out.
The end call button needs to be moved to a better location and the unlock/home swipe need to be optimized. It shouldn’t take two swipes and a significant amount of time to get to the home screen during a call.
I apologize for the rant, I’ve always been sensitive to this stuff and wanted to see if anyone else has noticed how non-fluid/intuitive the home swipe is during a call on the X/XS/XR.
Also separate issue, but the passcode lock screen system is also terrible and continually adds the number from the previous failed attempt which leads to additional failures as that extra number stacks onto your next attempt. There needs to be cool down where after a failed attempt it doesn’t carry over any entries from the last and the whole “shake” when there is a failed attempted should be replaced/improved.
Edit: For those downvoting, care to explain your reasoning? I’m not trashing iOS at all and I am a huge apple fan, I’ve just noticed how these issues stand out compared to the rest of the experience and its surprising considering how clear they are and how easily they could be addressed. Makes me want to go into the UI design field.
