I’m finding browsing the web on my new iPad a terrible experience, sorry.
I’m a big apple fan and have been using a mac since the 90’s. I got an iPad about a month ago, and although the combination of an iPad and the pencil is a game changer for me (for sketching, highlighting PDFs, etc), whenever I switch over to safari I’m just wondering WTF happened.
Here are a few reasons
* I have to use a bookmarklet to increase the font size to actually read a LOT of sites. Seriously, a bookmarklet? HTML has been designed from the ground up to support text resizing and there’s no built in feature to resize text and remember it? And the reader mode is a total unstandardized joke, are they trying to break the web?
* Quicktype is disabled for search engines. I almost always switch to safari to google something. If google or bing don’t have a completion for me (happens very often), I have to type the entire thing in, QuickType is just a blank space above the keyboard.
* Can’t find a way to default to requesting desktop view. I have a pretty good size screen on my ipad, but I’m at the mercy of every terrible “responsive” website out there.
* Harassed by every site that has a app for that. You know who is the biggest offender is.
I don’t even bother with surfing the web on my ipad anymore, my 2 year old, $180 chromebook is a MUCH better experience, I just reach for that instead.
