Does anyone actually use the HomePod? What do you use it for?
I have my entire setup powered by Apple, going so far as to actually install my entire Kodi build, library, add ons, etc. in place of the included libraries on my Apple TV.
Which is connected to everything else Apple (MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad, etc.) so obviously the second the HomePod came out I thought, “ok, so now I can ditch my mini wireless speaker and replace it with this?”
Apparently not, I’m told there’s no physical connection, so I guess it’s not able to be used for gaming as Bluetooth is far too slow… that’s fine, I’ll use it for anything except gaming…
…except apparently today I find out it doesn’t have Bluetooth either for some reason… so I can’t even connect it to my Apple TV and use it as a speaker? Wow…
From what I can tell, the only thing you can even use it for is airplay from your handheld Apple device and Siri which everyone who would buy this already has.
So what do people actually use this thing for?
PS: Personally I’m trying to now buy one, take it apart, solder an analog jack between the preamp and add a switched circuit so I can actually use one but I don’t really want buy it and support them making a product not many people will ever use and almost no one seems to want, so I’m trying to find one that’s broken (as all I want are the case, power amp, and speaker array and absolutely none of the chipset that is in the chain before the preamp and can’t really connect to much else anyways) but still looks great.
PPS: Before you suggest “try this Bluetooth or wireless speaker instead”, I already have two that work just fine, this is purely a cosmetic endeavor.
