I’m committed to the dark side
So I’ve been a loyal Android user up until now. I started off with the cheap Androids, spent a bit of time with the 4s only to become frustrated by a broken home button, then power button, then microphone and the laggy mess that was ios9.
I then moved on to my beloved Galaxy S7. My first *working* premium phone and I was in love. I loved all the features that Samsung threw in and yep I was that guy that would always tell you why your iPhone sucked because you spent way too much money on a product that just can’t do as much and has giant bezels. Then the iPhone X came out…and I was blown away. No more home button (which I had no faith in after my 4s experience) and the gestures were so beautiful. As much as I loved the design I could not bring myself to spend $1000 on a phone when I knew that in a few months I would be spending $1000+ on a new laptop for school.
Fast forward to Christmas 2018 and my S7 battery is dead, performance is terrible and the phone repair shops are quoting 100+ for a battery replacement with no guarantee of work! So, when my s7 died on me after making a single 3 min phone call off the charger …I wandered into a Verizon store to see what was available. They shoved the pixel in my face and tried to tell me I could get a few hundred dollars off (without having to add a new line!) but I told them I was just looking and headed over to look at the XS Max. Wow, simply beautiful. I’d heard that battery life was great but alas it was way out of my budget. I moved over to look at the phone beside it, the smaller XS, still very impressive but I had my reservations about the batter…wait..this isn’t the XS. It was the XR. I fell in love on the spot and did something that I thought was irrational at the time. With taxes I spent some $800 on an “underspeced phone with a bad display”. I could have walked out of the store with 2 s9s ! What was I thinking?? And the S10 was right around the corner.
Well now the S10 is here, and I think it’s a great phone but I legit don’t want it. I’ve fallen in love with iMessage (all my friends have it), the navigation, the simplicity of iOS, THE A12, the fact that all my Google apps are better on iOS and the list goes on. Sure there are things I don’t like (links open in Safari, 5gb iCloud), but since getting this phone I really don’t care about the latest new phone coming out. I finally understand the “it just works argument.” Plus the update support is cool. I bought this phone hoping that it was last me the next 4 years and so far I’m optimistic. My next Apple product will be those over ear StudioPods(?). I’ve yet to own a pair of high quality headphones and then after that maybe a Mac mini for recreational use ?. Yep, I’m turning into an apple sheep.
TLDR; I’m now a dumb Apple sheep that wastes money on overpriced tech
