Apple Brand Value and Eye Gouge Pricing
Hear me out guys, and get ready for some fanboy tinfoil-ism
What if Apple upping hardware prices is a bid to make their brand more valuable and perceived as more desirable/luxurious? As iPhones have become so common you could arguably say Apple as a brand has lost at least a small part of the high pedestal they used to perch on, and this pricing could be a bid to counteract that.
I seem to recall reading Apple wants to up their income from services, and maybe this branding strategy is a partial attempt to make their services preferred to customers. I.e. Apple Music vs Spotify.
A counterpoint to this could be the regular iPad as it’s so comparatively cheap. But maybe they feel the need to grow the reach of the iPad line as more important than brand value.
My whole argument here is pretty tenuous and poorly researched, but I wanted to get it out there as a discussion point. Also this isn’t intended as a defence of their new pricing, I think it’s horrific and anti customer, but just some thoughts as to *why* it’s happened.
