If Apple is truly serious about Health and things like ScreenTime, then the iPhone NEEDS an Always On Display or some sort of notification light.
Imagine your iPhone is sitting on a table, and you leave the room. A call/text/notification comes in and you don’t hear it.
When you return to the room and look down at your iPhone, there is absolutely zero indication that anything happened. None.
You have to manually check, each and everytime.
I feel that increases stress and obsessive behaviour. You’ll always have to check your phone, because just casually glancing at it gives you no information.
It just seems very habit forming, for a company that touts as being so health centric.
An AOD display, or some sort of animation on the screen would alleviate that. Glancing at it will tell you how many, and what type of notifications are missed. Maybe you won’t bother picking it up for another Instagram like, but want to check who left you a voicemail.
It will help relieve stress knowing that with just a casual glance, you’ll be able to tell what’s going on.
And it’s a simple thing to do as well. The amoled screens on the iphone X/Xs/Xs Max can do this with minimal power draw, just has to be a software feature. Even the LCD devices could have a notifcation. Maybe wake the screen for a second or two every few minutes for missed notifications.
Of course, this CAN cause the opposite, seeing the notifications waiting for you can cause you to check every single one. But that’s also a simple fix, do what Apple normally hates doing, and give us a simple options to turn it off.
And of course, not to mention even budget devices around the world already have this feature, and it’s just ANOTHER feature that Apple is missing. Jailbreaks and tweaks are created just for this.
This is another quality of life change that if Apple is serious about Health, they should immediately work on implementing.
