Android has mouse support. Why not iOS? (yet another mouse post)
I realize this is well-trodden ground at this point. But one of the main arguments from those who oppose mouse support is devs will no longer optimize for touch, or will implement half-baked solutions.
Android has mouse support. It’s system wide. But if you didn’t plug in a mouse, you’d never know that feature existed. I use an Xperia Z4 Tablet for work, and I haven’t come across a single popular app that was specifically designed for mouse use at all. But it works great for document editing, spreadsheets, and remote desktop. Is Android a good tablet ecosystem? Hell no. But it’s not because it supports cursors, that’s for sure.
I use a tablet over a laptop on the road for the same reasons many use a tablet. Lightweight, better standby battery life, LTE support. Windows on ARM is getting ready to fill the “road warrior” niche, and if it takes off (granted, big IF), the iPad is going to have a hard time maintaining that market.
Believe me, if Apple were to make a 12 inch MacBook with LTE, I’d buy three of them. But it would seemingly make more sense that they’d add mouse support to the iPad than add LTE to their laptops.
