Apple Update Ruins iphone 7 & Lowers Compatibility with iPhone Headphones
Ok so here’s whats been going on.
I go to a local college and I am staying here doing research over the summer. Recently update 12.3 came out and I have been having issues with calls not producing any sound and my headphones randomly disconnecting during use since.
*I was going to post this in the support chat until five other researchers came to me saying they had the same issue.*
4 phones + mine with iPhone 7’s and 1 with an iPhone 6S (not sure what software the 6S is running).
Nothing we have done seems to fix the issue and the Apple store simply told us to get a new phone (we each went in individually and had the same story of “oh its your port, must be dusty/water damage/etc”). We are all under the impression that this new update was designed to reduce compatibility of lower grade phones with Apple’s own earbuds in an effort to encourage an upgrade. If one of us had this issue that would be one thing, but five of us had the same issue arise on the same day.
*Is there anyone else with an iPhone 7 or lower that has recently had this issue begin?*
We have been able to fix it mildly (lasts until headphone jack is used again) by:
– Factory Reset
– Turning device off, sim card removal, reinsertion, and powering on
– Soft Resets (sometimes)
– Booting back to the prior software works until phones automatically update overnight and we can’t stop this, even after turning auto update off.
Any help/advice on how to ask for assistance from Apple would be great.
