Apple is drifting further and further behind on home automation and speakers. Basically anything that requires a license.
So I’m here because I’m a bit concerned with the long term competitiveness of Apple. I just gave up on trying to find a homekit doorbell and recently I was looking for a portable Bluetooth speaker that supported Airplay 2 (so I could connect them or integrate them with my other outdoor speakers). It’s starting to dawn on me that of the thousands upon thousands of relevant products nothing supports Apple and there doesn’t seem to be anything in the pipeline either. There might be a handful of Airplay 2 speakers that if you just so happened to be in the market for a speaker with one niche configuration then you lucked out but you’re going to lose the next dice roll. You basically have a 1 in a hundred chance of finding whatever it is you’re looking for that is compatible with the Apple ecosystem. Everything in the world is either Alexa or google.
IMO Apple needs to license Airplay 2 and Homekit for free and thye need to do it yesterday.
In the old days there were a handful of products and Apple always provided a solution even if it admittedly could be a bit dated with the rest of the market at times. Now a days everything in your home more and more relies on these devices and there simply is no way to participate without third party support. I hope they see the light before it’s too late.
