MacBook Pro battery replacement: Was quoted more than three times the standard amount for a standard procedure
I need to vent a little bit. I own a MacBook Pro (2015). According to macOS, I’m supposed to have my battery serviced. I think that’s fine, it will be a relatively modest expense. However, the authorized Apple partner wanted to way overcharge me.
I live in Sweden. Apple states that a battery replacement would cost ~1300 SEK (divide by 10 to get approximate USD):
[https://support.apple.com/sv-se/mac/repair/service](https://support.apple.com/sv-se/mac/repair/service). However, the authorized Apple service partner didn’t want to hear anything about it and quoted me ~5000 SEK as the standard price and ignored me when I pointed out the price on the Apple website. Apparently, Apple service partners in Sweden are free to charge whatever they want. That’s of course pretty disgusting business behavior. One of the reasons I bought that laptop was the promise of Apple that they’d replace the battery for a modest fee (with the older ones you could to this yourself as the battery wasn’t glued into the case), and now the cost is suddenly more than three times as much as they promise on their website. I think Apple just lost a customer who had been loyal for close to two decades. The value proposition is no longer there. On top, Apple gets a big minus point for shady business practices here.
