10+ Years of Android, Switched to the iPhone 11 Pro On Opening Day. My Thoughts.
Hey everyone! Just wanted to say that I’m a long-time lurker of both /r/Apple and /r/iPhone because I myself am a huge fan of Apple and Steve Jobs himself.
Samsung, ZTE, Nokia, OnePlus, Motorola, and Cherry Mobile are just few of the Android phone companies I’ve been with before. My last Android phone was the Note 9 which I adore but as time passed, it’s now showing signs of the Samsung lag.
So, after watching the latest Apple Keynote, I was kind of impressed with the iPhone 11. It was the price that caught me given I had plans getting the XR before. So without doing all the preordering stuff, I waited for a week and went to Verizon the time they opened their glass doors for iPhone Day. I was 2nd in line and got the iPhone 11 Pro 256GB. It was a last minute decision because if I’m going to switch to a different OS, I need to go big.
Thoughts: I love the phone.
BATTERY: It’s actually the only phone that lasts so long that I still got some juice left after working the whole day. I’m a very heavy user and in my 8 hour shift, I’m on my phone for 7 hours. OnePlus 5 didn’t survive that even the Note 9. I mostly use YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Safari, the Reddit app (slowly moving to Apollo).
CHARGING: OnePlus 5’s dash charging was amazing when I got the phone back then. I do miss it a lot though after I went to a S8 then to a Note 9. Samsung’s Adaptive Charging is just too slow to me. Then the iPhone 11 Pro’s charger came. Can’t really remember how fast OP5’s is but the iPhone’s charger is almost as fast as dash charging. I remember earlier charging the iPhone from 69% and it went to a 89% after 30 mins of charging. I love the wireless charging option too.
iOS and the proccess of switching: I’m going to keep this short. iOS is amazing because how everything in the UI flows. I remember the OnePlus 5 because of its responsiveness. The ecosystem is amazing too. I paired my Watch 5, Airpods, iPad, and Apple Card with the phone is just a tap of a button which is neat. Since the only Google service I use is Google Photos. It was an easy switch. I do have to download Google Maps too but I’m slowly moving the Apple Maps. Gestures here are amazing too. I just love how you can switch apps by just sliding the home bar. The Taptic feedback gives my hands orgasm everytime and I do wish iOS 14 will enable typing vibrations because of how good the Taptic Engine is. Overall, iOS is an eye candy and it just works. One major flaw for me here tho is when I want to go back home from the control center, swipe up from the home bar should work. One final thing about the OS, it’s guaranteed that I’ll be getting new IOS UPDATES someday!
CAMERA: Best camera in a smartphone for me for both photography and videography.
Things I missed:
Ease of transferring files from PC
Note 9’s S-Pen
Ease of refunding in the App Store
Final Thoughts: I’m pretty happy with the phone and this’ll be probably the phone in my pocket for the next 2 years.
