I’m moving back to iPhone.
Hello all. Long time Android user here, but I’m buying the iPhone 11 this week.
I’ve used iPhones in the past, and enjoyed them, but always preferred Android for the customisability, Google integration, and freedom.
But I value my privacy more.
Recently I’ve been more invested in my digital privacy, gradually removing Google from my life. The amount of data they’ve harvested from me over the years is insane. It’s something I feel like a lot of people ignore, or just accept, but I really can’t anymore. I didn’t even realize how much Google tracks you until I watched a video comparing the two mobile operating systems.
Is Apple perfect in regards to user privacy? I’m sure they’re not, but at least it’s part of their focus. Google as an advertisement company is at it’s CORE not concerned with user privacy; it’s antithetical to their business model.
This is in no way an attempt to bash Google or Android, if anything I’ve been one of their biggest fans. I use a Chromebook, an Android phone, and many other Google services, but that’s finally changing for me. I’m getting a Linux laptop, dropping most of my Google services, and getting an iPhone.
Am I going to miss things about my Android phone? Of course! Like I said, I prefer Android, but I value Apple’s focus on privacy more and I’m willing to give up some conveniences to support a company more in line with my values.
Anyone else that made the switch from Android for similar reasons? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
