iPadOS: super frustrating update
I have two iPads – 12.9 3rd gen and Air 2. I have always downloaded IPSW files and updated via iTunes. That has never resulted in a problem since I started using iPads with a 4th gen. The 12.9 updated no problem. The Air 2 went into an endless loop of ‘cannot update – unknown error (9)’ (slightly paraphrased). Tried 3 different cables in both USB ports on my MBP and always same issue. I then thought maybe by some odd chance it will work on another Mac, so I tried on another MBP. That worked. Sure seems like having a verified IPSW file and wired connection should be a very reliable (dare I say foolproof?) way of updating, so this experience has been pretty disappointing and now this process has me afraid to try it on my own MBP again (I really don’t want to brick my 12.9 like almost happened to the Air 2). Can iTunes get corrupted in some way that results in this (and is readily fixable)? Not cool.
