Life long Android user bought an iPhone 8 Plus in 2019 and use it as daily driver. Here are my thoughts
In 2019, there is hardly any LCD flagship Android Phone out there, almost all of them are OLED, which absolutely destroy my eyes since OLED screen flckers at a low frequency. I can really feel the burn after using my previous daily driver Pixel 2XL in a dark environment like on a airplane for like 5 minutes. On the other hand, the LCD on the iPhone is probably the best in the entire industry without PWM, and this is probably the biggest reason that I bought this phone.
iOS 13.1 feels very fast and responsive, but as a person who previous said to others “Android is also pretty fast these days”, I have to say iOS is just on a whole new level, everything is instant, everything is effortless, even you need to wait for the processor, the transition animation cleverly mask them away. In fact, it’s so damn fast and fluid that I am annoyed about the frametime spikes that only occur once in a while(unlike my Pixel 2 XL, tons of dropped frame if the app is poorly coded) and this is the perfect transition to the next topic that I want to talk about, the Apps
The apps on iOS is almost always better that the one on Android, especially the Apps I use, and the difference can be night and day. More features, more responsive, even Google’s own Youtube app runs better on iOS, you can double tap the right portion of the screen to skip forward 10 sec without waiting it to buffer.
* Apple Watch
This is the second reason I switched to iOS, Apple watch series 4/5 just blow the competition out of water, hands down.
Contrary to some battery test video over youtube, the battery life on my 8 plus has been great. Compared to my Pixel 2 XL, I feels like the 8 Plus lasts even longer, easily carry me through the day with 7 hours screen on time, that’s with Bluetooth paired with Apple watch and location always on.
* What’s not so great?
Cell signal reception, it is just worse than my Pixel 2 in almost every scenario.
