After ditching my AirPods with WC case for the AirPods Pro, here are my thoughts. For those of you who are on the edge and can’t decide whether or not to buy/upgrade, this post might help.
I’m currently a college student and I use my AirPods religiously every single day for anywhere between 2 and 8 hours. I walk to every class with them in, do my homework with them in, and relax with them in. My old AirPods (AirPods with WC case) were tied for my favorite Apple product with the Apple TV. I absolutely loved them. When the AirPods Pro came out, I drove an hour both ways to buy them.
After 24 hours, I can say that the Pro is a worthy upgrade *for me*. These things are really damn cool. However, given their price tag, I can understand where most people might be hesitant to upgrade to them from older AirPods. These are some questions you might want to ask yourself before upgrading:
**Do your current AirPods fall out on a regular basis?**
I personally never had an issue with this, but I know many people did, especially when working out/running. Despite it not being a problem in the first place for me, I immediately noticed that these things are significantly more comfortable than the older models. I let a friend of mine who has struggled with this in the past try the Pros, and he said that they felt much more snug in his ear and didn’t fall out nearly as easily.
If you’re worried about these feeling like those cheap earbuds with silicon tips that basically stab you in the ears and never stay in, know that you won’t run into any such issues here. The silicon tips on the Pros are very soft and are very comfortable in the ears.
I would say that if you currently have issues with the fit on older AirPods but still like them as a device, the Pros are certainly worth the upgrade.
**Are you an audiophile?**
I’ll be the first one to tell you that the AirPods *do not* deliver astonishing audio. They never have, and the Pros are no different. Having said this, I noticed a huge increase in sound quality over previous models with the Pros. The vocals were a particularly weak area for the previous generations. Vocals sound much crisper now. The bass is also much clearer and deeper. These sound much closer to what you’re paying for than previous generations.
Another benefit I have noticed is that these AirPods leak sound significantly less than previous models.
However, the improvements in sound quality alone don’t warrant an upgrade unless you have the money to do so.
**Do you work/commute in noisy environments?**
The noise cancellation is *really* damn cool. It works surprisingly well given the size of the headphones. It won’t block out all of the sound of a plane, but it will definitely get rid of chitter-chatter and other light ambient noises around you.
Having 3 modes to choose from is awesome. I use the NC most of the time, but transparency mode is great if you need to hear what is going on around you.
Seriously, the noise cancellation blew me away. If you work, commute, or do anything in a distracting environment and want to alleviate the distractions, the noise cancellation is brilliant. When I’m walking to class I can hear absolutely nothing but my music and it is so relaxing.
The AirPods Pro have quickly become my favorite Apple Product. I got the same feeling of excitement when I used these for the first time as I did when I used the originals for the first time.
This might be a pointless post, but hopefully I can help at least someone with their decision. If anyone has any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM!
