Airpods Pro — Disappointing. A quick review
All prices are in AUD. Airpods Pro were purchased on day of release for $399 Australian dollars.
Sound quality – Sounds good. Except my $40 soundpeats sound better. Being that these airpods cost literally 10x as much, this is unacceptable.
Active Noise Cancellation – This is good. Really good. Except, it doesn’t beat having good passive noise isolation from a proper seal. The design of the eartips (can’t rotate, sits shallow, only 3 sizes) don’t allow for an effective seal. The passive noise isolation from my soundpeats are better than the passive and active noise cancellation combined in the Airpods Pro. When walking on the street with the Airpods (ANC on of course), I hear chatter and cars. With a set of earbuds with a better seal and significantly lower volume, I can’t hear a thing.
Microphone – This is the only reason why I haven’t returned my airpods yet. Other competitors have terrible microphone quality and I have yet to find a better alternative.
Ease of use – I’ve had several problems with my AirPod connectivity. One of these include connecting but only one earphone is playing (have to put them back in the case, close them, then open and reconnect for it to fix itself).
The earphones are okay. But the fact that my pair of earphones that are 1/10th of the price are better in sound quality and noise isolation… I’m really struggling to justify keeping these. Is a better microphone and being slightly more convenient worth paying 10x as much?
/Apple help me find a reason to keep these. I really want to.
EDIT: and one thing that annoys me is that the app that is supposed to tell me if I have a good seal says all 3 have a good seal. When clearly, all 3 are very poorly sealed.
