Apple TV+ Review: A Good Start
So I dished out $5 last week to continue my Apple TV+ subscription.
App: Probably the worst part of Apple TV+. They really should have a separate app for the AppleTV+ content or at least a separate tab. App also seems to forget where I left off when I switch devices. Score 5/10
Audio/Visual: Absolutely spectacular! Best in the business. Looks better then Netflix/Amazon. Score 10/10.
Content: So far so good. I found 3 shows I really enjoy.
See: Started off real slow but Episode 3 and 4 has really picked up the pace. Episode 4 is a must see IMO and really begins to take advantage of the blind aspect. Visuals/sound are top tier. On the same level as big budget movies.
For All Mankind: I like this one. Pacing might be a bit slow but its always engaging. Nice mix of human drama and alternate history sci-fi. Just like See the visuals/audio is excellent.
The Morning Show. This is interesting. A bit too much swearing for my taste. I’d prefer more scenes with the characters actually on the TV show. Wish Steve Carrel had some ‘on air’ scenes. Potential is there. What I found refreshing is how this show approaches the ‘woke’ narrative. Again the production values are top notch.
Dickenson: Uhhh. Didn’t finish the first episode. I usually don’t care about writers taking some liberties on historic characters but I think they were way to heavy handed in the first episode. Making Emily a total lesbian is pretty jarring. They should have been more subtle. Production values are excellent again.
Overall: If Apple can keep up a steady stream of quality content they get my $5 easy. The first batch of shows are a good and solid start. But it to really take off they need to find a tent pole series. I don’t think any of the first batch are at that level. Maybe the Foundation series? Who knows. But lets remember it took YEARS for HBO/Netflix/Amazon to find their tent pole series.
Overall Score: 7/10. Good start.
Is this better then Disney Plus? I’d say they are different and cheap enough to get both. Disney is more of a family friendly and popcorn flick service. And I love that. Apple TV+ has proven to be more edgy and adult then I imagined. Combined they cost about $10 (with iTunes card discount) which is an amazing deal.
