RANT: iOS’s support for third party keyboard is terrible

Apple first introduced third party keyboards five years ago in iOS 8. From the beginning, there was a bug where Apple’s standard keyboard would randomly appear in place of your chosen keyboard. Removing the standard keyboard from the list reduced your chances of getting it, but it was never completely eliminated. This bug continues to occur five major iOS versions later, but I’ve noticed that in iOS 13, Apple’s slide-to-type functionality sometimes does not work, meaning that it must be an alternate keyboard on a software level. It’s dumbfounding that Apple can’t get this seemingly simple feature to work reliably even when it’s their own keyboard.
