Looking for help with MacBook Air vs IPad Pro
I know this is going to sound like a slightly odd question, but first know that I don’t have any clue about MacOS, iPad OS, nor Apple Music.
Okay, so here’s my situation. I’ve had an iPhone for the last 7 years (not the same one luckily) and during those 7 years I’ve built up a library of about 1500 songs. I’d say it’s currently about 50% ripped songs from CDs and 50% purchased from the iTunes Store, and this is all currently on a Windows laptop. I’m aware that iTunes will be soon discontinued in place for Apple Music, Apple TV and Podcasts.
I’m now at the stage where I want to completely stop using my Windows laptop and delve more into the Apple ecosystem. Initially I was looking at purchasing the newest version of the MacBook Air, but in the last few days multiple people have told me to purchase the iPad Pro. To begin with I didn’t even entertain the idea, because I believed that the iPad had no file manager system (equivalent of Windows Explorer) as I use this quite often with external hard drives (backups and storage) and I also believed that I couldn’t connect to an external hard drive. However from what I’ve now heard regarding the new iPadOS both of these things seem possible. Is this correct or have I misunderstood?
My next dilemma is regarding my current iTunes library. Obviously on Windows I have the full iTunes library manager, to edit information and so on, but am I right in thinking that I can only access such a platform if I purchase the MacBook Air? I suppose what I’m asking is, is there a similar app/programme/platform that I can use on the iPad Pro so that without purchasing a traditional computer (MacBook) and without using iCloud, I can still have total control over my music library? If this is this case, am I right in thinking I can simply plug in my external hard drive with all my current iTunes library on, into the iPad Pro, and create some sort of music directory directly onto the iPad without needing a MacBook?
Once again I apologies for the stupid questions, but I am truly clueless about these subjects. Any help would be much appreciated as I’m feeling very lost in all this technology at the moment, thanks in advance.
