I’m in a predicament with Apple & their customer Service…
Things are going to *complicated* so please try to bare with me! All I am asking for is advice on what my **optimal solution** is/what I can do without buying another airpod. Please help 🙁 🙁
So a couple days I realized my left AirPod was not having any sound come out of it. So, I checked to see if the warranty on my AirPods was still intact, and it unfortunately wasn’t. As I use my AirPods daily for work, schoolwork & while at the gym, I decided I should just eat the $75 and buy a new left AirPod. After the quick purchase, the employee at the Genius Bar told me to charge my AirPods once I got home and then to reconnect them to my bluetooth. Then, this morning when trying to connect I got a “Mismatching AirPods” notification….
So I initially called Apple Customer Service who told me that the Apple Store gave me the wrong generation AirPod and that I could go back to the store and get it refunded & replaced. Once I got to the Apple Store, the first employee I spoke with gave me a crazy confused look and asked why I had a “First Generation AirPod Charging Case and how I had mismatching AirPods”. He then explained to me that the employee at the Genius Bar sold me the first generation AirPod based on the sole fact that I had a first generation charging case. He said my only option was to **buy ANOTHER** AirPod for $75. This is where things get complicated…
After being mind-blown and confused for a couple minutes, I had my girlfriend come into the Apple Store as maybe we had accidentally switched AirPod cases. That was the case, and she had my second generation Charging case. And that 2nd gen case still had a warranty on it, so I asked if I could give back this 1st generation AirPod that I got less than 24 hours ago and had never worn, and get a 2nd gen AirPod back. The employee explained how I could not because genius bar purchases are non-refundable.
I then spoke with the manager and tried to plead my case. I asked why the employee who sold me this older generation AirPod never checked to see that I had a 2nd generation AirPods in a 1st generation case, yet the employee I spoke with on my 2nd visit was able to read the serial number in a heartbeat and know which generation it was. He told me that the Genius Bar employees only read the Charging Case Serial Numbers because it would be ‘**offensive’** to the employee if he/she double checked the generation of the physical AirPods. OFFENSIVE??? ***ARE YOU KIDDING ME?***
I then explained how I felt I was partially at fault because I accidentally had the identical looking yet wrong-generation case when I purchased a new AirPod, yet I should still get some sort of refund/discount because this employee negligently never checked what generation my actual AirPods were. He disagreed and accused me of possibly trying to scam the store (Despite me having legitimately all 4 AirPods and 2 cases my girlfriend and I own and there being no way of me possibly gaining in this situation).
Crazy enough, the manager legitimately agreed that it would be a good idea to go to another store, and put my AirPods back into the 2nd generation case and use my warranty to get a new left AirPod. Of course I try that……. and immediately the employee at this second store asks me why I have mismatching AirPods? damn…
So now there are only a couple things i can think of doing:
1. Filing a report through Apple Phone Customer Service asking for some sort of refund/discount for this Genius Bar employee selling me the wrong left air-pod
2. Legitimately just dumping water on this new AirPod and getting a new AirPod through the warranty
3. buying a new AirPod **(I’m a broke 22 y/o college student who spent 1/4 of my monthly pay check on this new AirPod and really don’t want to have to do that)**
