Just realized that Apple is going to upgrade their processors in all their products on a 24 month cycle in the second half of this year.
When you think about it, Apple didn’t really introduce new processors in 2019. No IPad Pro, Watch Series 5 had the same processor as Series 4 and the A13 was a minor upgrade. (A12XZ is the same as A12X with an extra core)
My theory is that because developing new chips are so expensive, Apple opted to have a longer, 24 month development cycle for all their chips. What this means is that Apple is going to have an absolute monster second half of the year in terms of the processors they will release.
5nm node: A14 IPhone 12, A14X IPad Pro, A14XYZ MAC, S5 Watch Series 6. Considering how powerful their predecessors were and the fact that Apple has had 24 months to iterate means we will get some amazing technological leaps this year.
