Apple is charging me to replace a logic board on a MacBook that wasn’t even broken in the first place
So on April 18th, I took my MacBook Pro (13 Inch, 2017) to Apple so that they can replace the swollen battery that was being replaced for free. The guy ran a diagnostic test and said everything was fine. On April 22nd I got a phone call from them telling me that the battery was replaced and when they ran a diagnostic test, they were defects with the logic board. They told me that it would cost a little less than $500 (I don’t exactly remember the price. Also to note, I didn’t pay for Apple Care cause I didn’t know I could pay for it after the purchase and couldn’t afford it at the time). At first I thought I had no option, but to go with the repair, until I thought to myself that it didn’t make sense. My computer was working fine for the 1 year I had it, so something must’ve went wrong. So later that night [April 22nd] I spoke with the online chat, told them to put the repair on hold and that I wanted to speak with a senior advisor. So the next day, I spoke with a senior advisor asking exactly what’s wrong with the computer. I honestly can’t pay $500 for a repair like it’s nothing. Eventually I was directed into speaking with someone else and I asked her the same thing. At this point, I just wanted my computer back. She told me that she was going to call the department to get an idea of what’s going on. So 10 minutes of me waiting on the line, she told me the same thing, they ran diagnostics and the tests showed that the logic board has a defect. I asked them if they had ran a test before and I don’t remember exactly what she said, but I’m writing this, so it wasn’t the answer I wanted. She said that the diagnostics that was done at the Apple Store mentioned that there were defects and I said no, the guy said that it was perfectly fine. Then she tells be that the repair center has more advanced technology and that they can catch things better and at that point I feel like they didn’t know what they were talking about, so I asked to cancel the repair.
Here we are, I got a phone call today saying that my computer is ready to be picked up. All I want to know is, should I pay for the repair? I just don’t understand why if my computer was perfectly fine in the first place besides my swollen battery.
