I’ve been using iCloud since 2012. In my opinion, it has become clunky to the point of being endlessly frustrating.
I understand a lot of it has to do with security, and I appreciate that, but to me it feels frustrating, and I’m pretty tech savvy. I never feel like I know what I’m doing . I’m continually downloading and uploading stuff every time I sign in and out on a device, backing up files from the cloud to my device or vice versa. There seems to be 5 different ways to do the same task. If I’m signed out of my Apple ID in iTunes, every time I open iTunes I have to repeatedly click the same dialogue box literally 15 times in a row informing me that I’m not signed in. For the life of me I can’t get iMessage to sync from my desktop to my phone… just stopped working one day. My contacts are different on every device, which I don’t understand because I thought the whole point is that they’re supposed to sync across all of them. Don’t get me started on photos – why isn’t there an option to backup to iCloud, but not mirror devices?? I like that my photos backup to iCloud automatically, but whats the point if every time I delete a photo on my phone it deletes it from iCloud?? What kind of backup is that?? These are just a few examples off the top of my head – really what bothers me is the overall feeling of mild confusion and annoyance that washes over me when I need to update something, or change a setting, or figure out why something isn’t working the way it should.
It feels like a maze, or a never ending hallway with infinite doors that look vaguely similar, and I’m never sure which one I need to go through, or if maybe any door will do. I apologize for my rant – I just needed to vent. I feel better… just don’t get me started on Dropbox file management, I might blow a gasket.
