[Tech Help]. iPad no sound in apps but sound I. Headphones and in Settings/Sound Menu

I have a tech question that perhaps someone can assist with.
My iPad 3 is not producing sound through the speaker in any of apps, music programs or streaming apps (Netflix).
Sound is heard when I go to the Sound Settings.. I can hear the sample ringtones, etc.
However no sound from any app is heard over the speakers.
I can however plug in headphones and all app sounds are heard.
It was extremely humid today so maybe something happened?
Any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.
