iPad Pro USB-C to HDMI Display Lag?
I have a 10.5″ iPad Pro. I bought an Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter and used the HDMI to connect the iPad to an LG 24UD58-B 4K monitor. It works, but the video quality is pretty poor when just mirroring the iPad display (I know it is different when displaying video, like from the TV app, or other apps which specifically support external monitors). It’s fuzzy and dull.
But the worst thing is trying to use the iPad mouse in this mode. On the attached HDMI display, the mouse cursor is so laggy that using it is a real pain to use. I have used the iPad mouse quite a bit directly on the iPad and find it a bit quirky, but quite useful. Useful enough that I am interested in seeing how the system would work with a large external display, external keyboard and mouse–oh, wait, that’s like a desktop, but it’s an iPad!
I could live with the size of the display (4:3 aspect ratio and the black sidebars), and maybe even the quality of the display. But the laggy mouse makes this system unusable for me as a desktop replacement.
I am considering upgrading to the 2018 12.9″ iPad Pro which has a USB-C port rather than lightning. I have two questions for those with this system who may have used the USB-C Digital AV adapter to connect the 2018 iPad Pro to a 4K display and who have used a mouse with this configuration.
What is the quality of the display when mirroring the iPad screen?
Is the mouse laggy in this configuration?
