Any students using an iPad as their main device for University instead of a laptop?

I’m about to start my degree in primary school teaching and I’m currently hunting around for a device I can take with me to my classes and lectures. As I have a Windows desktop at home that I’ll always prefer to use, I’m just looking for something portable and light that I can record notes with, write essays and look over uni content. The likelihood of using whatever I purchase outside of uni is low.
I’ve seen online that a lot of students have replaced their laptop with an iPad for their classes instead and after some research, I can say it really appeals to me; the battery life, how lightweight and portable it is, and in particular, the ability to be able to switch between hand-written notes and typing with a smart keyboard and Apple Pencil. I love the idea of being able to spice up my hand-written notes with highlighting, different colours easily with the click of a few buttons.
I’m just wondering if anyone else has opted out of using a laptop in favour of using an iPad as their only device for University; How did it go for you?
