Can’t get external hard drive to work with iPad Pro 2nd gen, help?
Alright so I’m at my wit’s end trying to figure this out.
i have a Seagate Freeagent Go that I previously used on my old MacBook Pro. I purchased the apple brand lightening to usb camera adapter to connect my external to my iPad Pro 2nd gen. The external is not powered so plugging it in to the adapter does nothing obviously. If I plug in my iPad charger cord into the adapter as well the external briefly powers up but then there’s an audible click in the external and it powers down and just cycles through this. Once I was able to see it in Files but then it powered down and I haven’t seen it in Files since.
So I purchased a USB power hub so I’m connecting the hard drive to the hub that is being charged by an ac adapter, and from the hub is a usb to the apple adapter which is then plugged into the iPad. The external is powering up with this method and remaining on, but still doesn’t show up in Files. I don’t get any error messages saying it needs to much power, it just doesn’t show up. However a flash drive plugged into the hub will show up on my iPad Files.
someone please help me. I read somewhere I need a usb c for more power but I don’t know what component this would replace, if it replaces the ac power cord to the hub or if I also plug this into the apple adapter. Is this external just too old/draws too much power for the iPad? I’m trying to avoid buying a new external if I don’t have to.
