In lawsuit filed by Epic Games, they note that without Apple’s rules they would create an App Store competitor.
In section I.D.90 Epic Games notes:
> Absent Apple’s Anti-Competitive conduct, Epic Games would also create an app store for iOS.
I think this is an important thing to note. Fortnite is a hugely popular title, but to take on Apple is a whole different ball game. Microsoft, Facebook, etc. have all given in without suing Apple like this.
I think the quote I made fundamentally highlights why: Epic Games sees a HUGE opportunity in building a gaming landscape beyond Fortnite. They want to take on Steam, the App Store, Microsoft, etc. They anticipate being able to launch a competitive gaming platform on iOS to be key in that endeavor.
In summary, this is about a lot more than Fortnite and micro-transactions, despite media focusing upon that the most.
Here is a link to the lawsuit filed earlier today, it’s definitely an interesting read: https://cdn2.unrealengine.com/apple-complaint-734589783.pdf
