Scribble has been amazing thus far
I have the iPad Pro 11 (2018) with the Gen 2 Apple Pencil and here are my thoughts on a feature I didn’t expect to love this much.
I recently updated to iPad OS 14 and after I watched through the entire wwdc20 keynote I didn’t think much of scribble,That is, until I finally started using. It’s not perfect and I have a pretty short list of aggravating annoyances with how Apple is treating the Apple Pencil in general (I’ll talk about those later). Those aside however, it’s so incredibly useful! I might even gander to say that it has made me prefer the original Notes app as opposed to Notability or GoodNotes (I use both). My handwriting is pretty sloppy which makes my own notes pretty illegible sometimes and I’m not fast enough a typist to rely on that alone when I’m attending classes. The conversion of handwriting to text has been done superbly! I have been able to write extensive pieces of writing from poetry to rant essays (I have a lot of free time) and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. Browsing is also a bit more enjoyable with the pencil now as it’s no longer solely a glorified pointer.
1: You can’t navigate with the Apple Pencil. I get that Apple basically considers it a secondary device but I see no reason why you can’t with a double tap for example switch into a “navigation mode” when you’re outside of apps.
2: This one is more Scribble specific. I hate that you have to start in the search fields in order to use Scribble in browsers. Since it knows to start scribbling as soon as you use your pencil to tap into the field, I wish the UI elements would be moved more centre screen. Having to write at the top of the screen and gradually write downwards is an annoyance that really could’ve been avoided.
Like I said, my list of grievances is very short. Overall, Scribble is absolutely fantastic!
