My experience with the worst screen protector I have ever used.
That’s my take on Paperlike 2 for iPad Pro 12.9“.
I posted 2 months ago about buying paperlike 2 and after a small discussion I decided to give it a try.
I am long term iPad and iPhone user since the first iPad and the iPhone 3GS. I have somewhat of experiences with screen protectors various types.
I had a 40 CHF screen protector from PanzerGlass Screen Protector. It got smudged really hard and got deeper screeches.
I had some matte screen protectors on my older 10.5inch iPad Pro and Ocushield Screenprotector that’s still on without any problems.
To Paperlike 2:
-The kit that comes with it is solid
-The micro fiber cloth is nice
-The packaging was good
-The screen protector feels nice to touch
-The quality of the wet wipes
-The feel while writing is alright (but nothing like paper, I am sorry, I am a student that used for 7 years paper and it’s nothing like paper)
-The accuracy of my writing is improved on the iPad.
-How to apply
-The screen protector get scratches really really easy
-The vibrance of the colors (I thought it improved much more)
-It’s made out of plastic (didn’t realize it before)
-The size (it doesn’t cover edge to edge)
-Won’t protect your iPad screen from shattering (Same effect as a thin sheet of paper as a protection)
So first impression was amazing and I was profound of the quality of packing. Everything looked really nice and great.
Before I applied the screen protector, I took of my old one and cleaned it with a micro fiber cloth and some cleaning solution for iPhone screens.
After that I watched the video multiple times to get everything right on the first time.
I did every step like one the video and then the disaster happened.
You have to line up your screen protector properly to your ipad screen.
Than you have to put 3 stickers on the side of the iPad and on screen protector. Than you open it and clean your screen of the iPad. Use the given tools from Paperlike. As soon as I removed the plastic that protects the sticky side, one of the 3 stickers came of and the screen protector landed on my mousepad. Rip to the first one. 15 CHF just gone.
The second time I really made sure nothing is coming and did everything like in the video but still 1 little speck of dust made it in and it has a bubble the size of a millimeter in the middle of the screen.
The screen protector is so wobbly and the stickers are so not sticky that it’s impossible to do the rotation 100% perfect.
I never ever had issues applying screen protectors never have I ever had bubble in the middle of the screen but I think it also has to do with the fact, paperlike is basically a thin sheet of plastic.
And just seconds after installing it, it has scratches and writing simply a word with the pencil and the word stays on your screen.
Writing on it isn’t comparable with paper. It is nothing like paper and I wrote lot of exams and resumes on paper and it doesn’t feel the same. But it improved my precision and my handwriting looks nicer and overall I like the feel more than writing on glass. But the drawbacks are huge with paperlike.
I really thought it was made a bit more durable and a bit better in general. I basically saw on every iPad YouTube video that they are using and praising Paperlike and even some of my favorite youtubers are those. I feel betrayed, they almost never talk about the drawbacks.
I will use it up a bit more until it’s unbearable to look at and buy a matte frosted glass from wish.com.
I am really disappointed in Paperlike. I really think the margin on those screen protectors must be really high when the product is so shit.
If you want to know anything else just ask, if you ask me if you should buy paperlike or something cheaper. Go for the cheaper option.
