iPad 8: Transfer speed & options for streaming external media
As we know, the iPad 8 will come with a **lightning to USB-C cable** and a **USB-C power adapter**.
1. **Does the new iPad support USB 3.0?**
I tried searching the tech specs page and Apple’s newsroom but it came up empty. My personal speculation is that it won’t because it’s the entry-level model and Apple ain’t boasting about it but need confirmation.
2. **Using the provided cable alone, can you stream media from an external drive?**
[This post](https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/iqi2ts/streaming_media_from_ssd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) came up before the event and a commenter recommended using a powered hub; does the new iPad need that with its new cable?
3. **What third-party options do you have to charge the device while streaming external media?**
As far as I know, there are no options from Apple to do this with their adapters. I’m looking for a **Lightning to Lightning and USB-C adapter** (so I don’t need to buy an additional charging cable) or a **Lightning to Dual USB-C adapter**, since I plan to get a USB-C compatible SSD.
*Unrelated note: Trying to word things right for this post was a pain and I had just had a session with Portal 2 co-op. I’m now wondering if it is worth it to consider the iPad 8 over the iPad Air 4.
