Why is the Apple TV app so fundamentally flawed?
I have many Apple products and I do try my best to live with the design decisions. Some I like, and others I just shake my head at. At the heart of the Apple TV+ you are providing a service and are billing the customer for that service. Apple TV+ is supposed to be like a cable tv subscription or a better Netflix. It isn’t tied to any hardware so it should work with any smart TV or plug in smart device.
I have an Amazon FireTV stick, and it has AppleTV as a downloadable app. This is written by Apple and so should be of the same quality as AppleTV on any other device.
The fundamental problem is PAUSE. It doesn’t work or behave as you would expect or demand from a program. I was watching a show using the AppleTV app and needed to go for a pee break. There was 11:23 left in the show. I hit pause and went to the bathroom. After washing my hands I thought since I was up, I’d really like a piece of toast and a cuppa tea. Sure it took 10-15 minutes from when I hit pause to get back to the TV. One would expect to hit pause again and it to resume. NOPE! I was still in AppleTV but at the main screen. I reselected the show I was watching only to have it start at the beginning of the next episode in the series. Hang on, I still have over 11min of the previous one. So I hit stop and have to select the prior episode. Did it start playing where I had hit pause? no. Did it give me the option to resume? No. I had to manually fast forward to about the same spot.
Apple. Come on. Don’t you get it? I want to watch your shows, but I have a TV. If you are going to release software, at least test it and make sure it works. This seems to be a fundamental flaw if you stop a show close to the end it just won’t save where you ended. Or paused. You can’t say it’s a problem with the device as every other streaming software works just fine and does not have this issue. It’s your software. The only thing that makes it worse is you refuse to provide support or even acknowledge the problem.
