Report has Apple updating iPad Pro with wireless charging and more in 2022

What you need to know

  • Apple is expected to refresh the iPad Pro, iPad, and iPad Air lineups in 2022.
  • A new report adds to existing claims that the iPad Pro models will gain wireless charging support.

Fans of iPads across the board could get some new products next year.

Apple is working on a new iPad Pro that would benefit from wireless charging, with a 2022 launch in the cards. That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman says that we could see the 2022 iPad Pro get wireless charging — with a previous report having pointed to the stellar new feature — charging iPhones from an iPad Pro. Reverse wireless charging has long been rumored for future iPhones, but it could make even more sense on a large iPad.

While charging an iPad Pro via wireless means seems less useful given the size of battery involved, reverse wireless charging is something that could be useful on the daily — and is something that should hopefully come to iPhone eventually, too.

Beyond the iPad Pro refresh, Gurman’s report also has Apple refreshing the current iPad Air while a new entry-level iPad is also thought to be in the cards. Information about both products is spotty, but all eyes will be on what Apple does with iPad Air given its current label as one of the best iPads the company offers today.

Alongside the new iPads, Apple is also thought to have a slew of new Apple Watches — including a rugged model — and as many as five new Macs in the works, all set for a 2022 launch. Throw the rumored mixed reality headset into the mix and 2022 is already set to be a big one for the company.
